As rumoured, Google’s going to announce a 7-inch, Nexus-branded tablet called the Nexus 7. According to the leak, it’s built by Asus, with a 1.3Ghz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, GeForce 12-core GPU and 1GB of RAM with two different storage variants: 8GB and 16GB.

The VIA ARM Digital Signage System looks like a small computer… and basically it is. But it’s designed to run Google Android or other embedded operating systems, and as the name suggests, VIA is positioning the little PC as a digital signage system for use in retail, education, entertainment, kiosks, or similar environments.

For various reasons we’ll get to in a moment, AMD believes they need some kind of hardware security platform technology to continue to compete in the market in the future. Intel’s Trusted Execution Technology is not part of the x86 specification and is therefore not shared, so AMD would need to come up with their own technology. Designing and implementing such a technology is not only resource intensive but by its very nature it fragments the market, which is something AMD doesn’t necessarily have the clout to get away with all the time. So rather than design their own technology they’ve chosen to license an existing technology, and this brings us to ARM.

Just dock your Ubuntu on Android enabled phone to a dock and it outputs Ubuntu on your monitor/HDTV all powered by your ARM Powered phone. Is Canonical going to be able to convince all device makers to pay for it and to support it? Should Canonical try to make it an apk in the Google Play Store, based on the Android Native Code Development Kit for it to work on most current Android phones?

The developers at Linaro have been showing off some code optimizations that allow Google Android 4.0 to run up to 100 percent faster under some conditions. It’s not clear if or when these tweaks will end up in the official version of Android that Google ships to phone and tablet makers — but the changes have already been submitted to the Android Open Source Project and independent developers have already started to build Linaro’s toolchain into custom versions of Android.
